Sentinel.co.uk offer free email hosting to anyone who has a domain name hosted with us. We have our own in-house mail server which supports POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP mail protocols, has extensive virus checking facilities and has has both heuristic SPAM filtering and a system for checking a number of well-known and proven blacklist servers to reduce unwanted incoming SPAM emails. We are also committed to ensuring email security for our clients and as such our server will only accept email from servers which provide proper credentials during the handshaking process as recommended by RFC standards.

The mail server sits on the same huge internet pipe as our web and DNS servers and the respose times are therefore very fast, mail dropped on our server from an external source is typically scanned for viruses and checked for SPAM using the two methods described above and queued in your mailbox in under 12 seconds. Outgoing emails are also checked - as a responsible service provider we are very comitted to reducing SPAM and virus dissemination.

We use the popular Squirrel Mail interface giving users who do not use a mail client (such as Outlook, Eudora or simlar programs) to access their emails from anywhere with an internet connection. This proven interface can be used to read and reply to emails, keep an archive of emails, and give access to any attachments which some with them. It also has the facility to report SPAM emails directly to SPAMCOP using an easily setup option (you will need to be registered with SPAMCOP to use this option, but this is free of charge).
